NEW YORK -- Alabama alumnae and UANYC member Amanda Perna will be one of 20 designers on the ninth season of "Project Runway", premiering Thursday, July 28 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime Television.
Currently an associate designer at Calvin Klein and creative director for Couture Chaos, Perna graduated from Alabama in 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in human environmental sciences, majoring in clothing, textiles, and interior design with a concentration in apparel design.
While at the Capstone, Perna was an ambassador for the Department of Clothing and Textiles and the Honors College. She won several awards, including the Henrietta Thompson Fashion Achievement Award, and had the honor of being the coordinator of the Tee Time Fashion Fundraiser. Perna spent time in the Big Applie with internships at Oscar de la Renta's O Oscar brand and Calvin Klein's bridge label as an undergrad. Also while in college, she started her own company, Couture Chaos, which designs and creates clothing and accessories for sale in south Florida boutiques and individual clients.
"Project Runway", now on Lifetime after airing on the Bravo Network for the first five seasons, has contestants compete with each other to create the best clothes and are restricted in time, materials and theme. The designs are judged and one or more designers are eliminated each week. Season 9 will feature Kim Kardashian, Malin Akerman, Christina Ricci and Zoe Saldana as celebrity judges, joining regular judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors.
